The role

We’re looking for an enthusiastic and organised Environment Assistant to support the Cardiff & Vale Environment Team in delivering sustainable natural resource management across South Wales.

In this varied and rewarding role, you'll be the backbone of the team—handling everything from coordinating incident response rotas to managing procurement, processing compliance data, and responding to public enquiries. Interviews will be conducted in person. The interviews will take place at Rivers House, St Mellons on 23/07/2025.

What you will do

  • Support the integrated delivery of functions by the team and place including collation of complex regulatory compliance and enforcement information, coordination of responses and administration of incident response rotas.  
  • Hold or develop a knowledge in processes such as evidence collation, database administration or simple permit determinations that supports the delivery of work by the team or place.
  • Respond to basic customer queries and ensure that more complex queries are recorded and passed on to relevant staff.
  • Support and process procurement requests for the team or place to ensure appropriate equipment is available and maintained in line with procedures.
  • Undertake health and safety duties and responsibilities appropriate to the post
  • Be committed to Natural Resources Wales Equal Opportunities and Diversity Policy, together with an understanding of how it operates within the responsibilities of the post

  • Any other reasonable duties requested commensurate with the grade of this role.

Your qualifications, experience, knowledge and skills

In your application and interview you will be asked to demonstrate the following skills and experience using the STAR method.

  1. A good understanding of NRWs regulatory remit.
  2. Good organisational skills.    
  3. Ability to communicate effectively with internal and external customers and partners.
  4. Able to work well as part of a team.

Welsh language level requirements

  • Essential: A1 - Entry level (able to use and understand simple, basic phrases and greetings, no conversational Welsh)
